Dr James Pimm graduated in 1981 and came to England in 1987, having conjoint board exams equivalent to MB ChB from Edinburgh in 1981. He qualified MRCGP in 1989 and MSc in 2013

He has held various positions as GP partner, associate, International Medical Adviser, and local skin doctor in a practice. He began seeing skin patients referred by doctors, nurses, and physician associates in Finchampstead for four years. He retired from NHS work in 2023 and from private practice in 2025. During his career he worked in general practice, psychiatry, dermatology, anaesthetics, paediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

His work as an international advisor was published as was his work as a RCGP Travelling fellow with the Kuennsberg award.
